As a professional photographer, I often visit the web sites of people I get to meet or know and I can’t help but notice how many use ‘Stock Images’.
Firstly for those that aren’t aware of what a ‘Stock Image’ is then let me explain. They are images stored on Stock sites, such as Fotolia or Shutterstock by photographers who sell them with usage rights.
The benefits are that you can often get images to use on your sites that are easily found, downloaded and may not cost a great deal.
The price often depends on the level of usage and the time for which the image will be used. Obviously...

At this time of year the skies are often lit up with fireworks – and they can make great photos but many people think they are too difficult to photograph.
Here are some tips to get great fireworks pictures:-
1: Get a tripod – your camera will need to be rock-steady for at least a half a second and it is highly unlikely that you will be able to hold it steady enough for long enough without some help. A remote release cable will reduce the risk of camera shake even more. Fireworks are fast so from about .5 of a second upwards perhaps to 3 or 4 seconds will be required depending on how extensive...

It's never an easy thing to do!
1: Boys will be boys and children will be children – so don’t try and force them
into a particular pose. Some of the best photos are captured when the subject
is oblivious to the camera. This approach also reveals more of their character
and personality.
2: Down with kids – it may sound obvious but children are smaller than adults.
Getting down with them gives you more natural looking photos and an interesting
child’s-eye view of the world.
3: Location, location, location – a bored child is not going to yield much in the way of
great photographs. Just...

As a photographer with a business to run of course I want everyone to have a portrait session.
But my passion for this most intimate of art forms goes way beyond simple economics. Capturing people and telling a story about them, as individuals or as part of a group, is what attracted me to photography in the first place.
A professional portrait is not just a wonderful piece of individual art for your home now, it has the power to become a family heirloom.
Portraits were once things that the wealthy commissioned artists to paint and generations later they still have the power to say something...

Wedding photography requires knowledge, as well as creativity and talent, and can be
very challenging but also very rewarding. A professional wedding photographer should be able to capture and document your memories as your special day unfolds.
Above all, though, Weddings are about celebrating – and they should be fun!
Your wedding may be one of the few times when you have all your friends and family
together in one place and possibly the only time you spend a lot of money on
hiring a professional photographer. So, it’s important that you capture the
full emotion and essence of the day in your...

Having a great corporate headshot or executive profile portrait is becoming more and more important in a world where communication plays a big role in business life. Particularly with the ever increasing role that online networking and social media tools are playing in corporate marketing strategies.
Businesses can also use corporate photography to document events and create visual content for newsletters and marketing materials. The main goal of corporate photography is to sell the brand, so good corporate photographers need to work with their business clients in mind.
Photographing the people...

As a business owner I feel extremely fortunate that I am able to make a living doing something that I love. To that end, I feel that I should try to give something back to the local people and community that have supported me throughout my journey.
For example, I have previously had the pleasure of working alongside the team at the St Leonards Hospice in Penarth. I have been able to provide my photography services to them by taking pictures of their local fund raising staff and I have now donated the images so they could publicise their events.
I have also photographed a number of their local...

LinkedIn is now the world’s largest professional network on the Internet with more than 100 million members in over 200 countries and territories across the globe. There is no doubt that it is a great way to make connections and build new business relationships.
But, how important is your corporate image online? I would say – EXTREMELY important! (But I am a little biased being a photographer!)
Seriously, though, like any business networking opportunity you really only get one chance to make a first impression – and online networking is a perfect example.
Think about it, when viewing...

Here are some images from a shoot I did with a beautiful young model called Lauren Davies. Lauren is local to where I live and Xpect Photography are sponsoring her and supporting Lauren's ambitions. Lauren is the face of Xpect Photography for 2011-2012 and I am looking forward to working with her throughout the year on different shoots with different themes and in different seasons. The aim, development for both of us as we strive to always get better.
This shoot is a bit dark both in tonality for some of the images but also in the appearance/subject with Lauren striking her 'rag doll' pose on the floor...
